The University of Birmingham - School of English, Drama and American and Canadian Studies wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Creative Writing with effect from 1st September 2018. We would particularly welcome applicants with specialism in writing for screen and/or stage.

We seek an early career academic with a completed and successfully examined PhD, evidence of teaching experience, and a developing record of outstanding research that will complement and enhance existing Department strengths.

The successful candidate will be expected to create and disseminate knowledge through initiating and conducting original research, through publication and through developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

In addition, the post holder will contribute to the department and school by undertaking academic administration as appropriate to the appointment.

Established in 2014, the Department of Film and Creative Writing is home to a team of internationally acclaimed, award winning writers. The department has a prestigious undergraduate degree in English and Creative Writing, ranked second in the Complete University Guide 2018, and a thriving MA in Creative Writing. Our PhD community includes published novelists, poets, screenwriters and playwrights. The department enjoys strong relationships with national and international organisations, regularly hosting professional conferences, literary festivals and guest speakers.
