Discover Children’s Story Centre is running a fun and engaging four-week transition literacy summer school for Year 6 pupils
This is an exciting opportunity for experienced primary literacy teachers, freelance practitioners who are qualified teachers or primary literacy consultants with a passion for creativity and raising attainment with a strong track record of improving children’s literacy levels, particularly in diverse settings.
In summer 2013, from 29th July – 23rd August, Discover Children’s Story Centre is running a fun and engaging 4 week transition literacy summer school for Year 6 pupils before they start secondary school.
This is a research project funded by the Education Endowment Foundation and will be based at Lister Community School in Plaistow, however, the participants will be children from all over Newham predicted to achieve between NC Level 3c – 4c by the time they will reach their secondary school. We require two literacy consultants/teachers to plan together and deliver an exciting scheme of work, based around a children’s novel which will be both imaginative and geared towards the raising of achievement.
The summer school will include lots of inspiring trips out and artist visits. The successful candidates will be excellent practitioners and have experience of planning and delivering literacy schemes within a primary or secondary school in an inner city area.
