New Views is a teacher-led programme, aimed at English and Drama teachers, with full support from the National Theatre.
Groups are paired with a professional playwright who supports participants to write their own original plays, and the programme also includes teacher CPD, bespoke resources, and theatre tickets for participants. At the end of the year, participants have the opportunity to submit their plays for the New Views festival, which runs at the National Theatre in London in July.
Teachers are able to design their course in the way that works best for them; some using it within the classroom to support the curriculum, with a focus on literacy, critical analysis and creative writing skills. Others run it as a cross-year extracurricular activity, exploring youth voice and self-expression, and through this supporting student wellbeing.
