We are looking for a dynamic, highly organised and experienced person with an interest in the arts to take up the freelance role of Operations Manager of StAnza, Scotland’s annual international poetry festival, and its associated activities.
Based in St Andrews, StAnza celebrated its 25th festival last year, re-framed by the new Artistic Director as an ‘intervention’ in poetry, committed to exploring questions at the forefront of poetry and its role in the world, and delivered in hybrid form.
At the same time, two exciting outreach programmes were launched, aimed at engaging and encouraging new audiences. Building on the successful delivery of the first year of this ambitious re-framing of StAnza’s identity, we are now undertaking an organisational restructure, to ensure that StAnza has the capacity to develop our activities over the coming years.
As part of this we are recruiting an Operations Manager, who will work in parallel with the Artistic Director, focusing on the operational and organisational aspects of festival management.
The Operations Manager will provide operational leadership, providing the participant artists, audiences and volunteers with an efficiently run, welcoming and positive experience of StAnza either in-person or online. They will have excellent organisational skills, be able to liaise with a variety of providers and stakeholders, have event and budget management experience, and the ability to keep a number of plates spinning simultaneously while keeping their calm!
Period of contract One year, freelance, renewable subject to funding and performance.
Days per week Averaging 3.5 days per week; the nature of this position requires flexible working, particularly around the lead-up to and period of the festival.
Base Home-working will be necessary. Engagement with committees and other staff will generally take place online, with meetings also in Edinburgh and St Andrews. Applicants need not live in St Andrews, but due to the operational nature of this role, it is important that applicants live within reasonable commuting distance of the festival so as not to incur substantial travel costs.
