Outreach & Education Officer
Deadline: Mon 23 Jul 2012
Icon Theatre is seeking a part-time Outreach & Education Officer to develop, deliver and evaluate activities as part of our education and community programme

Icon Theatre's education and community programme aims to transform the lives of disadvantaged communities, families and young people through the performing arts.  We work with some of the most excluded and hard-to-reach young people in Medway and north-east Kent.

We are looking for a proactive individual with at least 1 year's experience of working with hard-to-reach young people.  The main focus of this role will be:

  • facilitating and managing 2 weekly youth theatres in particularly disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Medway
  • supporting & mentoring participants with regard to career pathways
  • overseeing the delivery of an ongoing Arts Award programme for participants
  • developing, setting up and where appropriate facilitating new projects for disadvantaged communities, families and young people in Medway.

Although the initial contract is a 1 year fixed contract for 15 hours per week (£20,000 pro rata), we are confident that we will be able to renew the contract after the initial 12 months. There is also scope for the successful candidate to develop and extend the hours of this role subject to funding and some opportunities for additional freelance project work.

Based at the Brook Theatre in Chatham, we are within commuting distance of London (40 mins by car/train although we regret regular commuting costs cannot be paid). However, it is often possible to arrange transport with other staff members commuting to and from London on an informal basis.
