Papatango New Writing Prize 2023
Deadline: Sun 5 Feb 2023
The 15th Papatango New Writing Prize is now open for entries. Launched in 2009, the Papatango New Writing Prize is the biggest playwriting award in the UK, attracting more annual entries than any other.
It is also unique in offering personal feedback, supporting new writers and generating new work for the entire sector. Each year the Prize expands to offer even more to early-stage writers, championing people excluded from theatre.
The Prize
The winning writer will receive £7000. Their script will be produced by Papatango in a full run on the main stage of the Bush Theatre, London, in spring 2024. The writer will receive a royalty of 8% of the net box office and their play will be published by Nick Hern Books.
The four shortlisted writers will each receive £500 and the option to have their play presented as a reading by The Playwright Laboratory (TPL) in association with Papatango. The readings will give each writer the chance to see their play professionally directed and performed. These readings will be filmed and then showcased on TPL’s private, members-only industry platform, reaching producers, programmers and theatres worldwide.
All entrants will be able to opt in to receive feedback if they wish
Open to anyone resident in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. There is no age limit.
