Poet-in-residence for Poetry Cares – Bideford Care Home

We’re looking for a poet to take part in a pilot programme at a care home in Bideford, North Devon, extending our existing model of poetry and reminiscence sessions at Memory Cafés into care home settings.
Poetry Cares celebrates the power of poetry and the positive impact of creative engagement with those affected by memory loss.
Sharing and creating poetry can help to unlock memories and spark connections for people living with memory loss, their friends and their families.
Literature Works’ Poetry Cares project trains practising local poets to deliver special poetry and reminiscence sessions at Memory Cafés across South West England.
We read well-known and well-loved poems aloud, often the same poems that people learnt by heart at school, to promote recollection and sharing. These upbeat, interactive workshops help stimulate memory and the recall of lost language. The sessions often culminate in the group creating a collective poem of their own.
