The Wordsworth Trust, through funding it receives from Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation, is running a series of month-long poetry residencies between November 2019 and March 2020.
The residency offers an exciting opportunity for exceptional poets, from any cultural background and writing within any literary tradition, to spend time in the heart of the Lake District, a World Heritage Site that so inspired William Wordsworth.
You will have the opportunity to respond creatively to the Wordsworth Trust’s outstanding collection of manuscripts, books and fine art, and to engage with the Trust’s educational and outreach programmes, in Grasmere and throughout Cumbria.
The residencies are taking place at a pivotal moment in the Wordsworth Trust’s history. In 2018, the National Lottery Heritage Fund awarded us a grant of £4.1 million for the delivery phase of ‘Reimagining Wordsworth’.
‘Reimagining Wordsworth’ will enable more people, from a more diverse range of backgrounds, to discover Wordsworth’s poetry. Its completion will coincide with a nationwide celebration of the 250th anniversary of Wordsworth’s birth in 2020.
The Wordsworth Trust embraces the Creative Case for Diversity, believing that our work is enriched through active engagement with a diverse range of influences and practices. We are keen to encourage applications from poets from a range of backgrounds and experience.
Further details about the residencies can be found on our website at: www.wordsworth.org.uk/poet-in-residence-applications/
The deadline for application is 5pm on 27 May 2019.
