Project Officer, Literacy Champions - North East, National Literacy Trust
Deadline: Mon 3 Oct 2022
Our Literacy Champions project identifies, trains and supports volunteers to take action to improve literacy in their local area. We are recruiting a Project Officer to support the delivery of Literacy Champions across the North East.
You will be responsible for working within target communities to identify potential volunteers and volunteering opportunities. You will develop new strategies for recruiting, training and supporting these volunteers, as well as mobilising key community partnerships.
The North East has been a major focus for the work of the National Literacy Trust over the last decade. Our National Literacy Trust Hub in Middlesbrough is a 10-year, Middlesbrough-based response to the challenges of intergenerational low literacy. It brings together local partners to tackle literacy issues, working with business, health, education and cultural organisations to help raise literacy levels. This work is overseen and driven by a local Hub Manager.
We have also built on this Hub with Read North East, our first region-wide campaign in the country. Read North East raises the profile of reading across the whole area among parents with young children, with project delivery focused on Newcastle, Gateshead, Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar and Cleveland
You will be part of our local areas team, working closely with the local managers for our Middlesbrough Hub and Read North East. You will also provide general support for our work raising literacy outcomes across the North East. This is a home working role based in the North East, with regular travel around the area.
