Publisher, The Poetry Translation Centre
Deadline: Tue 14 Dec 2021
The Poetry Translation Centre is seeking a Publisher to join our small and dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with poetry or translation experience, an international outlook and an entrepreneurial spirit. A proven track record in publishing contemporary poetry is desirable. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from diaspora heritage backgrounds.
The Poetry Translation Centre was established by the poet Sarah Maguire in 2004 to introduce new audiences to leading poets from around the world, as well as better understand and celebrate the diverse communities who have made their home in the UK.
In 2019 the PTC launched the World Poet Series, a beautiful series of slim pocket-sized books in bilingual editions. These books make available to an English-language audience some of the most exciting contemporary voices from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
We publish four World Poet Series titles per year (two new and two expanded reissues). We also publish full-length single-author collections under our own imprint, as well as a biennial anthology of poets shortlisted for the Sarah Maguire Prize.
We are seeking a part-time Publisher to take our publishing programme to the next level. You will publish high-quality poetry translations, bringing together international poets, translators and leading UK poets to work collaboratively. You will develop relationships with retailers, distributors and special sales partners, and grow our sales in the UK and internationally. You will be responsible for the management of the Sarah Maguire Prize, managing submissions and convening the judging panel. You will line-manage the PTC’s intern.
The position is 3 days per week (0.6 Full Time Equivalent), and is based at the PTC’s office in Deptford, south-east London, with flexible working options. The salary is £35,000 pro rata.
