Publishing Internship

Brighton-based independent publisher Myriad Editions is looking for a Publicity and Marketing Assistant for three days a week for a three-to-six-month period

The internship is paid and will begin in mid-January 2014.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, you will assist with publicity and promotion work, as well as general office tasks. Duties will include managing Myriad's social networking channels, updating the Myriad website, submitting books for prizes, coordinating author events, minuting meetings, managing the contacts database and sending out review copies. The job will also entail working on Myriad's First Fictions festival and setting up appointments for the London Book Fair and other industry events, some of which you will have the opportunity to attend. The internship will focus on two projects: Myriad's First Graphic Novel Competition and Writer's Retreat Competition (winners of both to be announced in May). You will be involved in every aspect of these projects, from promoting the competitions across a variety of channels to logging entries and helping to organise prize-giving ceremonies. Essential skills: You will hold a university degree and be self-sufficient, motivated and decisive. You will have an interest in event organisation and promotion as well as publishing, and be confident contributing to meetings, using social media (twitter and facebook especially), and emailing / phoning a range of contacts. Some interest in / knowledge of fiction and graphic books is desirable. You should be fluent, articulate and accurate in spoken and written English. You will have some basic design skills and be happy to work in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as Microsoft Excel.
