Research Assistant - War Widows Stories, Liverpool John Moores University

War Widows’ Stories focuses on the lives of war’s forgotten women past and present. Combining traditional academic research with participatory arts, oral history, surveys, and public events, we work together with war widows and their families to create an intricate history of war widowhood in the UK.As part of an AHRC Leadership Fellowship, the project is now recruiting a Research Assistant for 18 months at 0.5FTE, starting 3 September 2018.
Created and led by Dr Nadine Muller at Liverpool John Moores University, the project has received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the British Academy, and the Arts & Humanities Research Council, and its official partners include the War Widows’ Association of Great Britain, the Royal Museums Greenwich, the National Memorial Arboretum, and the Imperial War Museum North.
The Research Assistant will work closely with Dr Muller as well as the project’s participants, volunteers, artists, and partners. You will play an integral role in the successful delivery of the Fellowship, which will include the public events, oral history interviews, participatory arts workshops in quilting and poetry, and single and co-authored research publications on war widowhood as well as on the research methods employed in the project. The post includes career-development mentoring as well as all relevant training including in oral history methods, research ethics, and loss and bereavement awareness.
You must hold a PhD in English, history, women’s studies, and/ or gender studies. Experience in oral history is desirable, as is a background in women’s history, specifically in the area of women and war or conflict.
