In addition to the £2,000 first prize, we will present the £500 Golden Hare Award to the top story entered by a writer living in Scotland.

Writers of the top 30 flash stories will be offered publication in our annual anthology with another stunning cover by leading contemporary artist Gordon Mitchell. The top thirty will also be invited to the annual Flash Bash at the Scottish Arts Club in Edinburgh.

Entry fee is £7 per story with free entry for any writer living in Scotland whose immediate family receives any form of income support.

The competition is entirely run by volunteers supporting the Scottish Arts Trust, a charity committed to promoting innovation and creativity in the arts in Scotland through voluntary action. All proceeds are used to support the arts in Scotland.

The Scottish Arts Trust also manages the Scottish Portrait Awards, Scottish Landscape Awards and, for those who prefer to write a longer story, our annual short story competition for stories up to 2,000 words opens for entries in December with chief judge Ian Rankin.
