Short Residency, Dame Allan's Schools

The aims of this short residency (6 days or 42 hours equivalent to be split between the junior and secondary schools) is to engender a love of reading and creative writing within the schools and to champion authors with an affiliation to the North East. Activity can be a mix of in-person and digital connection and can be on successive days or spread out across the year.

Outputs:

Junior School:
Talks and workshops. (1 day equivalent)
Launch and judge a competition (2 days equivalent)
Or equivalent activity by mutual agreement.

Senior School:
Eight 45 minute sessions (one per class).This can be the same session repeated and can be part/ fully pre-recorded or streamed live. (2 days equivalent in total).
Two 30 minute lunchtime talks, open to all interested students.
An interview for the school magazine or school radio.

This is not an exclusive list but forms the basis for developing shared expectations between the school and the author. Dates will be agreed depending on mutual convenience between February 2022 and July 2022.

£1200 inclusive fee
Use of the school library and our beautiful courtyard gardens for research or a quiet writing space. Ample tea/ coffee/ biscuits.

All appointments will be subject to adhering to the schools Safeguarding Policy, including a requirement to have recent DBS clearance.

This represents a freelance contract and as such the artist is expected to have their own insurance.
