We’re inviting entries from both under 18s and over 18s, in two categories: life writing and fiction. This year’s fiction theme is architecture, interpreted in the widest possible sense. Entrants must be resident in the UK at the time of submission.
From grand landmarks to local sheds, from modern skylines to ancient structures, we invite stories inspired by the buildings and spaces that shape our lives. We’re interested in buildings of every kind: homes and halls, castles and cabins. Architecture isn’t just style or engineering; it’s lived experience. Buildings hold memories of laughter, protest, shelter, transformation. They shape us as much as we shape them.
Life writing entries must be rooted in the writer’s own lived experience.
Stories must be written in English. A maximum of 2,000 words
We’re delighted to welcome two guest judges this year: Gatlin Perrin, author of Dirk Jones is NOT the Chosen One and Dr Emma Filtness, author of This Savage Language, an erasure poetry project made from pages of Wuthering Heights.
