Speaking Volumes: Writing Opportunity for British Asian Women
Deadline: Fri 20 Nov 2026
Are you an older British Asian woman with a story to tell? Writer, artist, and filmmaker Raman Mundair and editor/writer Sharmilla Beezmohun are collating an anthology of 100 voices to make visible the stories of Britain’s older Asian women - an invisible backbone of UK society whose experiences are seldom heard.

Timed ahead of the 80th anniversary of Indian and Pakistani independence in 2027, this project showcases the vast diversity of British South Asian diasporic life. We welcome new, emerging, and established authors, including working-class, disabled, Queer, and activist voices.

What We Are Looking For:

Length & Genre: Fiction or non-fiction up to 750 words max based on life experience with Britain.
Themes: Open. Stories can cover childhood, adulthood, work, relationships, family, education, personal or family history, experiences of erasure, or reflections on Britain’s history of Empire and colonialism.
Originality: Must be 100% your own work, unpublished elsewhere, with no AI use.

Editorial Support: Selected authors will work directly with professional editors.
Additional Exposure:Other pieces may be edited and featured on the Speaking Volumes website under the *Women Speak Volumes* project.
Copyright:You retain copyright to your work post-publication (with due credit).
