Spread the Word has announced the return of its flagship development programme, the London Writers Awards. The Awards aim to increase the number of writers from underrepresented communities being taken up by agents and publishers.

Supported through a philanthropic donation by Sam and Rosie Berwick, the programme has so far supported 120 writers, 50 of whom have gone on to be agented, with 35 book deals.

The 10-month programme is free to participate in with bursary and access funds for low income and deaf and disabled writers.

It is open to unagented and unpublished London-based writers of literary, commercial and YA/children’s fiction.

The 2025 judges are
For literary fiction: Oisín McKenna, Jyoti Patel, Cara Lee Simpson from the Susanna Lee Agency and Emma Leong from Janklow & Nesbit.
For commercial fiction: Nilesha Chauvet and Oli Munson from A.M Heath
For YA/ children’s fiction: T?lá Okogwu and Lorna Hemingway of Bell Lomax Morton.
