The Astley Prize 2025
Deadline: Mon 30 Jun 2025
Nairn Book & Arts Festival has launched The Astley Prize, a new short story competition honouring the memory of Veyatie Astley, a talented young writer. A celebration of bold, original storytelling, it is open to writers worldwide aged 16 and over.
In its inaugural year, The Astley Prize is inviting international short story submissions on the theme of 'Coast'. Stories may be any length, up to 5,000 words. Whether it’s the meeting of land and sea or the act of ‘coasting’, we want to see where your imagination takes you. Stories must be original, unpublished and written in English.
The winners will receive £500 (first prize), £100 (second prize) and £50 (third prize). Winning stories will be published on the Nairn Book & Arts Festival website and their authors will be invited to read their work at the 2025 Nairn Book & Arts Festival.
£10 entry fee per story and £5 for any subsequent entries.
