Creative writing commission as part of Scotland's Year of Stories 2022 - Community Stories Project supported by Museums Galleries Scotland.
Celebrate Kilmarnock (CK) will commission a creative writer to produce a new piece of writing in response to the story of the Countess of Kilmarnock, celebrating and exploring one of the lesser-known aspects of Kilmarnock’s history. It will be a creative response in an appropriate form of literature, as identified by the writer as part of the project. For example this could be prose, fiction, drama or poetry resulting in a short story, monologue or short scripted play.
The creative writer will work with primary school age children to develop the piece of work through creative writing sessions in the school. The intention of participatory working with primary school children is to result in a wider sense of ownership and understanding of the project, create a sense of pride, and raise awareness and appreciation of the locality through creative engagement and learning activity.
The resulting piece of writing will feature in future community projects events such as public performance (by other parties) for Kilmarnock’s Killieween celebrations on 28th Oct 2022.
