The Jericho Prize for Children's Writing

We're excited to announce the inaugural Jericho Prize for children's writing, open to all unpublished or self-published Black-British writers with great stories to inspire children aged 4 years plus and 7–9.

Send us your finest finished manuscript for a chance to win a cash prize, exclusive access to publishing industry professionals, and more.

We want to showcase talented Black-British writers who may have faced barriers to traditional publishing.

As a Jericho Prize winner, you'll learn from industry experts, develop your manuscript, and, eventually if your book is published, broaden your audience. We need your brilliant stories!

We're looking for manuscripts aimed at young readers and your work must fit into one of these two categories:
1. A picture book for 4 years plus. No more than 800 words OR
2. A short chapter book for the 7–9 age range between 10,000–15,000 words

All manuscripts must feature a Black or mixed-Black main character.

The winner of each category will receive:
£500 cash, funded by Knights Of
Editorial consultancy with Anna McQuinn from Alanna Max or Carla Hutchinson from Piccadilly Press and Hot Key Books at Bonnier Books
Design consultancy with author-illustrator Ken Wilson-Max from Alanna Max
