The Laurel Prize 2026 is Open for Submissions
Deadline: Fri 1 May 2026
UK Poet Laureate Simon Armitage’s The Laurel Prize, for the best collection of environmental and nature poetry, enters its seventh year, with three new judges at the helm: poet and founder of The Poetry School Mimi Khalvati (Chair), poet and professor David Morley, and environmental policy expert Bethan Laughlin.
Since 2020, the Prize has furthered discourse around ecological concerns and the climate crisis and has reached new audiences with messages of care for our planet. Simon Armitage donates his Laureate’s Honorarium of £5,000 each year, gifted to the winner in prize money. A further four shortlisted authors will each receive £1,000.
Previous winners of the Laurel Prize include Pascale Petit, Seán Hewitt and John Burnside, with the 2025 award won by Katrina Porteous for Rhizodont published by Bloodaxe Books.
The Laurel Prize is international, meaning any collection written in the English language will be eligible for entry.
Collections published between 1 May 2025 – 30 April 2026 will be eligible for entry.
Publishers are able to submit collections from Tuesday 10 March until Friday 1 May 2026.
Entry fee: £25 per publication
