The Saltires: Scotland’s National Book Awards 2025 are open for entries for fiction, non-fiction and poetry titles published between 1 June 2024 and 31 May 2025 by writers born and/or resident in Scotland. Work by debut writers is invited in each category in addition to general submissions.
The prizes are administered by The Saltire Society and have amplified the work of Scottish writers since 1937. Winners in 2024 were Laura Cumming (Thunderclap, Chatto & Windus), Ajay Close (What Doesn’t Kill Us, Saraband), Jen Stout (Night Train to Odesa, Birlinn), and the late John Burnside (Ruin, Blossom, Jonathan Cape).
Scotland’s National Book Awards 2025 are supported by The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
