Exeter UNESCO City of Literature has opened the call for its inaugural writers’ residency at Greenway, the much-loved holiday home of Agatha Christie in Devon.
Eligible applicants will be well-known authors of fiction (including poetry), nature writing, and children’s books, who have a connection to a UNESCO City of Literature outside of the UK.
Writers must be published, with at least one book in English (as an original work or in translation) and two or more in their own language. Writers whose work is natively in English are required to have published at least three books.
The residency will run from 25th September–16th October 2026; the first two weeks will be at Greenway, the last week will be in Exeter. At Greenway, the three writers will each have a private bedroom in shared accommodation, workspaces, and a programme of activities to connect with the region’s network of passionate readers, writers, and storytellers.
The writing undertaken while staying at Greenway does not need to have an explicit link to Agatha Christie or the crime writing genre.
