Writers in Residence, Edinburgh International Book Festival
Deadline: Fri 26 Oct 2018
The Edinburgh International Book Festival is seeking to appoint two Writers in Residence to work in community and school settings. These roles are envisioned as two separate posts within the same project — one writer based in community settings, one writer based in schools — but we are open to discussion on alternative ways of structuring the project, depending on the nature and quality of the applications received.
For both roles, we are seeking writers who have experience of working within community or school settings, who relish working with people from varied backgrounds, and who have the ability to work in a creative and responsive way to ideas from the Book Festival, the local populace and key partners. This will involve supporting the emerging project shape and content as well as working with other writers and artists who will be supporting elements of the project at various points.

Whilst creative writing and engagement with literature in all its forms is the backbone of this work both writers must be open to — and perhaps experienced in — embedding other creative mediums within the project, such as music, film, photography.

Both roles are initially for fixed-term contracts but with the potential for renewal into the second phase of the project, as we continue work with schools and begin work with our second lead partner, The Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh.
