Writing Magazine and Writers Online Children's Book Prize: Chapter Book 2026

Chapter books can often be overlooked, with many writers choosing to write either picture books or middle-grade. But chapter books are tremendous fun to write and a brilliant way to encourage newly-established, young readers.
What are we looking for?
The award is open to all unpublished and unagented writers and is an opportunity for you to submit your chapter book texts. We are not looking for illustrated stories or accompanying sample illustrations – please just send the story text.
Prize
The first prize winner will be offered a consultation with top children’s fiction agent Julia Churchill, a year’s subscription to Writers Online Membership Plus.
The second prize winner will be offered a chapter book critique by Amy Sparkes through Writing Magazine Writing Courses, a year's subscription to Writers Online Membership.
The third prize winner will win a year’s subscription to WM.
