Writing Stones | nature writing retreat | funded places available
Deadline: Mon 20 Jul 2026
Two fully funded places are available for Writing Stones, a five-day writing retreat with Wyl Menmuir in West Penwith, Cornwall, running September 7–11, 2026. The deadline to apply for a funded place is July 20th.
The retreat is built around Wyl's new book The Spirit of Stone, the final part of his trilogy on place and the natural world. It takes stone as its starting point in the broadest sense: mountains and caves, stone circles and quarries, Neolithic carvings, the buildings we move through every day. West Penwith is one of the most stone-rich corners of Britain, and the sessions will draw on that directly.
Wyl is a Man Booker-nominated author whose non-fiction has won the Roger Deakin Award and the Award for Excellence from the OWPG. He teaches at Falmouth University and tutors regularly for Arvon and Curtis Brown Creative. In 2026 he was awarded the Blue Metropolis Planet Literature Prize.
The retreat is open to writers at any stage, working in any form. Five nights accommodation, full board, four full days of writing sessions and workshops.
Funded places cover the residency fee, accommodation, and all meals.
How to apply:
All that is needed to apply is a simple 300 word statement submitted to dyski.co/wyl-menmuir-writing-stone by July 20th 2026.
