Young Writers Groups - Lead Writer, Writing East Midlands

Writing East Midlands is the literature development agency for the region. We are looking for experienced writers and workshop facilitators, with experience of and a strong interest in working with young people. Lead Writer Positions available in: Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Wellingborough and Corby.

The writer will

• Plan and facilitate 10 monthly two hour workshops for young people. The workshops should be: playful, participatory and focus on creative writing, storytelling, poetry, reading and role play and other areas of interest as decided by the groups themselves.

• Work with resources such as literary texts, objects, music, paintings and other creative mediums to act as spring boards for creativity and ideas.

• Be responsive and sensitive to the group and individual members interests and needs, and be open in their workshop and sharing approach.

• Collate evaluative data on the group’s experience, and track their own process through the project. The lead writer will support a uniform evaluative framework which they will shape.

• Collate workshop examples and schemes of work to be shared with other YWG Lead Writers to save each other planning time.

• Work with a shadow writer and project partners to deliver the workshops and collate qualitative and quantitative data through the process.

• Collate suitable work from the workshops into a creative output celebrating the work created throughout the project; such output could be an anthology, podcast or performance for parents to be agreed with the group participants.

This position will require a time commitment of one session per month (2 hours each) and up to 10 sessions in an academic year, though these sessions could be fortnightly depending on the host venue’s needs.

A fee of £60 plus expenses and resources is available for each workshop.
