Turning Short Stories into Picture Book Stories with Eva Wong Nava (Online)
Fri 1 Jan 2021 to Fri 31 Dec 2021
As a flash fiction writer and picture book author, I can help you turn your short stories (under 1,000 words) into picture book stories that are appropriate for children 4 - 8 years old. I can offer manuscript appraisal, mentoring, and industry advice.

Who am I?

• I am an award-winning children’s book author and a nominee for the Pushcart Prize. I have experience in writing flash fiction and picture book stories in 1,000 words and under.
• I am the co-founder of Picture Book Matters, a mentoring platform based in Southeast Asia. Together with an award-winning graphic novelist, Picture Book Matters offers crash courses and 1:1 mentoring for aspiring and emerging picture book creators focusing on narrative picture books.
• I am also a freelance diversity reader working in the children’s book market.

What I can offer?

• I can offer a detailed analysis and report of up to three picture book manuscripts.
• Mentoring sessions where I will talk you through your revisions.
• You will also get industry tips on querying and submissions.

Where will this take place?

Online on Zoom, Skype, Hangouts, where you will get 1:1 mentoring on your revisions.

Why should you contact me?

If you are a beginner at picture book writing, you are in for a treat. I can help you develop, polish, and revise your picture book stories for publication. Of course, publication is not a guarantee in this very subjective industry. But you will gain industry tips on how you can write that stellar picture book story + query letter to hook your readers. I will include a bonus Twitter Pitch session to get you pitch-ready for Twitter Pitch Parties. And, I will create a safe space for you to share your stories with me. However, I can only take a selected few mentees annually because of the intensity of the work we will be doing.

Find me here and on Twitter and Instagram to see what I get up to.

Dates: January - December 2021
Location: Online
Cost: £60 for three manuscripts + one 60-minute online 1:1 session.
