Rosie Canning is a Doctoral Researcher at University of Southampton under the supervision of Ms Rebecca Smith. Thesis title: Hiraeth: Finding a Fictional Home. The focus of research is the representations of orphans and care leavers in fiction. Rosie will examine the research through the lens of both creative and critical practice. The creative piece will explore her own experiences of leaving care as well as considering the positive aspect that reading fiction has had on her life.
Rosie is Creative Director of Greenacre Writers. In 2012, she co-hosted the Greenacre Literary Festival. In 2013 the festival expanded and was re-named Finchley Literary Festival.
Rosie has written several short stories and flash fiction pieces which have been long/short-listed in competitions: Spilling Ink; The New Writer; Flash 500; The Yellow Room and The Word Hut and published in York Tales, Mslexia, and non-fiction in a local community magazine.
